Who am I?
Hi, I'm Lucas and I love cooking. My reasons for this blog came from many different periods of my life and the lives of those around me. Single life / student life / budgeting / inspiration / special occasions / etc.
For years I have wanted to write something that was useful for people cooking for just one person. Something to avoid the whole make-a-huge-pot-of-spag-bol-and-eat-it-for-a-week type cooking-for-one, which seems to be what a lot of people do. I want to encourage and motivate people to cook genuine tasty meals that don't mean freezing weeks’ worth of food, nor the same thing for dinner night after night. Otherwise you end up resenting cooking.
There are many reasons you might be by yourself. You’ve just moved out of home. You haven’t yet found the person you want to live your life with. Your loved partner of many years has died. You’ve left a relationship and are on your own for the first time in years. You just like living on your own. Or many other reasons. It doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on delicious meals.
Another reason for this blog was create a resource for the I-have-just-moved-out-of-home-and-my-cooking-is-lacking-in-variety-and-I-don't-know-what-to-do group of people. Just talking to friends and colleagues made me realise that there are people who want to have more variety, but other commitments get in the way. Usually kids and work!
I also wanted to write start this blog to help people get perspective on where their food money disappears each week. It is easy to buy premade sauces and meals. You think you can’t make them from scratch for a cheaper price, but all of a sudden your budget is blown and you don't really have enough food for the week.
This blog is not going to be just about budget meals, and small portions. But they will be there. My partner and I also love entertaining, Cooking a 5 course lunch for 20 is not out of the realms of possibility. Stressful. sometimes, but we love it.
